So when we left Chicago 10 years ago and made our way to TorC, visiting the Trinity site was high on the list todo. Along the way we would always miss it. 10 years we'd be a day arriving back into the area or zone out to only read about it the next day. No more, today I was able to check of the list.
My interest comes from my college days @ UNT. I quit music school an picked up Poly Sci as a major. One of the classes I took was called "Peace Studies", it was all about the bomb. I though there would have been more girls in the class, but it was a very interesting class.
A few observations from the visit. I live in New Mexico, of course I have a "Nuclear Radiation Detector", duh. Truth be told it's Kris's, true story.
Second if you're planning to visit, next year, prepare for the long wait miles away. I got there around 8:45 and finally parked around 11:30. The line to the gate when I got there was over 7 miles long. Was going to camp overnight but got lazy and slept in my bed. My Mahjoog is pretty good after hours of practice along side of the road.
Finally, I got to say I was taken back by the number of people. I knew folks came to this, but it was a large crowd. Last night I ran into a couple after soaking and ran past them today at the site. I don't know crap from Crisco when it comes to this, but I think the movie had a huge impact on the number of visitors. And so it goes...
